Religious Boy

A girl asks her boyfriend to come over Friday night and have dinner with her parents. This being a big event, the girl tells her boyfriend that after dinner, she would like to go out and "do it" for the first time. Well, the boy is ecstatic, but he has never done it before, so he takes a trip to the pharmacist to get some protection. The pharmacist helps the boy for about an hour. He tells the boy everything there is to know about protection and doing it. At the register, the pharmacist asks the boy how many he'd like to buy; a 3-pack, a 10-pack, or a family pack. The boy insists on the family pack because he thinks he will be very busy, it being his first time and all.

That night, the boy shows up at the girl's parent's house and meets his girlfriend at the door. "Oh I'm so excited for you to meet my parents, come on in." The boy goes inside and is taken to the dinner table where the girl's parents are seated. The boy quickly offers to say grace and bows his head. A minute passes, and the boy still deep in prayer with his head down. Ten minutes pass and still no movement from the boy. Finally, after 20 minutes with his head down, the girlfriend leans over and whispers to her boyfriend, "I had no idea you were so religious." The boy turns and whispers back, "I had no idea your father was a pharmacist."

19th MALAYSIAN OPEN MASTERS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS (VETERAN HISTORICAL ROAD RACE) MELAKA ON 1st MAY 2005.

Despite of training less recently, about 40-50km per week, but I still maintain at least two speed work per week.

I entered the 19th MALAYSIAN OPEN MASTERS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS (VETERAN HISTORICAL ROAD RACE) MELAKA ON 1ST MAY 2005.
Category – 40-49 years
1st position- RM200.00
2nd position – RM150.00
3rd position-Rm100.00
Medals for 1st to 20th position.

The race start and finish at Stadium Tun Fatimah, Melaka at 8.00am sharp. As usual, the race started off promptly, everyone has to run about 300meters round the track before going out the main road. The race started very smoothly, at the 1 km mark, 5 runners were in front of me, I was in 3rd position in my category. I was overtook by Saidin, (last year Iron Hill champ and the eventually champion) and fall into 4th position at the 3km mark, he kept chasing the two front guys. He eventually overtook them at the 4th km mark, at the same time I managed to overtake the earlier lead runner who has started way too quick. I maintain 3rd position with the gap of 100 meter behind the Indian. The gap getting closer and closer until about 70meters at the 7 km mark. My plan was to get as close as him and overtake him before the last two km.
I could hardly see any marshal at this state. When I came to a junction, I could see a very small sign indicate to turn left. After the turn, the Indian which was supposed to be in front of me was suddenly out of my sight for more than 100meters, he must be speed out from that point. After 400meters from the turn, I felt something wrong, as no one was insight in front nor behind me for about 200 meters. Damn!! Not again, I felt like I have turn to the wrong route again. Died lah, I was stout, should I turn back or continue, where is all the marshal. All my effort gone already. I have no choice but to turn back, after about 50 meters of slow jog I saw someone chasing from behind, so I turn back and continue my run again. I was still not very confidence, maybe the fellow at the back also run the wrong route After 200meters, I saw a grass cutter, I stop and ask, “Encik, Tadi ada orang lalu sini kah?” He has to stop his class cutter machine before he could reply my question. “ Ada,empat orang lalu tadi.”. I quickly thank him and continue and run, after a few steps, I turn back again and ask “ Bila mereka lalu sini” as I scared that I could be wrongly turn to the earlier route and these runners could be the last 4 runners instant of the first 4 runners (Anyway I knew that there were 5 runners in front of me not 4). He replied again,”Baru tadi saja”. Immediately, I picked up my pace and continue my run again. I was released to see two marshals direct me to turn right at the junction two km before the finish line. By then, no way I could chase the 2nd runner as he was more the 300 meters out of my sight. What I could do is to maintain my pace and position all the way to the finishing line.

I finish at the time of about 45mintues for the 11km. At the end of the race, I told every of my friends that I was in 3rd position, and my encounter and how I lost to the second runner.

The official result finally came out and I was in 2nd position, how come? Ya-lah, now I only realize the the Indian runner is the one who ran into the wrong road. No wonder he suddenly disappear from my sight after that turn.

Immediately, I received my award of Rm150.00 but without medal, as the medal was short, so the organizer given medal priority to the foreigners. All Malaysia will get their medal by post within 30 days which was repeatedly promised by the President of Malaysian Masters Athletics Association(MMAA) Dato Haji Abdullah Haji Mohd Dom during his speech in the price giving ceremony.
Anyway, I was very happy with my performance and enjoy very much with the race.
(Update: We have not received our medal until now 23th July 2005. Dato Haji Abdullah, where is our medal?).

Joke

Be Careful What You Wish For

A man was digging in his garden, when his shovel hit a hard object buried in the earth, which revealed itself to be an old bottle sealed with a cork. The man wrenched the cork free and, to his astonishment, there was a cloud of smoke and a clap of thunder. Standing before him was a genie. "As a reward for freeing me, I shall grant you three wishes," said the genie, "But understand, whatever you wish for, your most hated enemy shall receive twice over."

The man's most hated enemy happened to be his next door neighbour, Jones. "Let's see. My first wish is..." He looked at his weather beaten bungalow, "...to live in a ten story luxury mansion.' The genie clapped his hands and suddenly his minute shack transformed into the most beautiful house he had ever laid eyes on. He heard a cry of astonishment from next door and looked over to see Jones standing in the doorway of his new twenty story mansion. "Now I want fifty of the most beautiful women imaginable." said the man. There was a puff of smoke and his wish was granted. He was annoyed, however, to see Jones grinning and waving, surrounded by his own harem of 100 women, all twice as attractive."

What is your final wish, Master?' asked the genie.

"I want to lose a testicle," said the man.

TIPS FOR RUNNERS from Julie Wong

I took part in the 11KM event at the Seremban Half Marathon on 10/07/05 with a handful of KLAVA members. The event was well organised except for the lack of professional and sufficient medical aids along the route.
At the 9th km, I saw a young man (in the Special category) lying subconciously by the road with 3 other runners by his side who were helpless except fanning him with a towel and trying to give him some water. The poor young man was sweating pale and his eyes are almost turning all white.
I can't help but to stop over. Obviously he is running out of breath and suffer some form of heat exhaustion (heat stroke). There was no medical attendance at the vicinity. This young man's life is obviously in much danger if not attended to immediate!
Having been trained as a Girl Guide, I immediately get the other to apply the necessary aids while trying frantically to get an ambulance. Unfortunately, when we managed to get one after almost 10 minutes later, they seems to be very ignorant. I stayed behind and insisted that they sent him to the nearest hospital before any fatal incident took place.
When I was back at the Seremban Municipal building, another runners was in an ambulance in almost similar symptom but not critical. 3 young SJA surronded him in the ambulance with one of them fanning him with a piece of newspaper. Again I went over asking them to do the necessary.
This makes me realise that if each and everyone of us be equipped with some basic First Aids knowledge, perhaps we could help to safeguard the life of those who are in need. Let us be a knowledgeable and responsible runners. Take charge of your life and help others who are in need.

Here are some very simple and useful tips which I would like to share with you.

Here are some simple First Aid tips for common running injuries for runners.
Runners should be responsible for their own safety while on the track/field. Perhaps you may also help other fellow runners who injured themselves. Life is precious and must NOT be compromise at any cost.

Blisters

Needs no be treated if unbroken. However, if it breaks or likely to be damaged, cover the injured area with a dry, non-adhesive dressing that extend beyond the edges of the blister. Leave until it subsided – this prevents infection. Never break a blisters or cover with cream or lotions.

Sprained Ankle

Sprained ankle will be painful and may be swollen. If unsure whether the ankle is a sprain or fracture, treat as fracture. Follow this procedure –

Rest the injured part.
Apply ice or cold compress. This helps to reduce swelling and pain.
Compress the injury. Placing the cold compress firmly over the injury and surrounding area or use a thick layer or soft padding secured with a bandage.
Elevate the injured part. Raise and support the leg to reduce blood flow to the ankle and to minimize bruising.

Heat Exhaustion

This can happen when the body cannot lose heat through radiation or evaporation. This condition usually develops gradually and is caused by loss of salt and water from body through excessive sweating.

Symptoms : headache, dizziness, confusion, loss of appetite, nausea, sweating with pale, clammy skin, cramps in arms, leg or the abdominal wall, rapid weakening pulse and breathing.

Treatment:

· Help the casualty to a cool place.
· Lay him/her down and raise the legs.
· Give him/her plenty of water. If possible, follow with weak salt water (one teaspoon of salt per litre of water).
· Ensure he/she sees a doctor even after recovery. If his/her condition deteriorates, place in recovery position and sent to hospital immediately.
· Monitor and always be ready to perform CPR if needed.

Sunburn

Caused by over-exposure to the sun – in severe cases, he/she may suffer heatstroke

Treatment:

Cover skin with light clothing or towel.
Move him/her out of the sun.
Cool the skin by sponging with cold water or by soaking the affected area in cold bath for 10 minutes.
Gives him/her sips of cold water.
For mild burns, calamine or an after sun lotion may soothe them. For extensive blistering/skin damages, seek medical advice.

Injuries to knee joint

Treatment:

Help him/her to lie down.
Place soft padding or blanket under the injured knee to support it in the most comfortable position.
Wrap soft padding around the joint, and bandage it carefully in place.
Send him/her to nearby hospital on a stretcher.
DO NOT attempt to straighten the knee forcibly. DO NOT allow him/her to walk. DO NOT give him/her any food or water; an anesthetic may be necessary.

Here is a joke

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300o C. The Russians used a pencil

Kenny Rogers Roasters' Chicken Charity Run

The organizer changed the rule. Instead of run with a boiled egg in a dish, we have to run with a boiled egg in plastic container. How we hold it are up to us but the egg must be intact with the container. So, there is no skill required, just like holding a baton. Eventually, I managed to finish 3rd with a medal, Rm50.00 Kenny Rogers Roasters voucher and 2 days/1night stay at Berjaya Geogetown Hotel Penang.

Funniest Joke

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other man pulls out his phone and calls emergency services.
He gasps to the operator: "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator in a calm, soothing voice replies: "Take it easy. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead."
There is a silence, then a shot is heard.
Back on the phone, the hunter says, "OK, now what?"

Joke of the day

Gloves and Panties

A man went to a gift store to buy his girlfriend a pair of gloves. He had the manager try them on. She said they were perfect, so he had the manager wrap them up. When the manager gave him the gift she accidently gave him a pair of panties instead. When the girlfriend got the gift there was a note attached to it.
The note read:
Dear Honey, Hope you like the gift. The lady at store said they were perfect. I had her try them on for me. She looked more like a lady. I hope you will wear them for me Friday night. Love, Bobby
PS:The latest style is to wear them folded in with a little fur showing.
