Saga Hill-Ah Pak San Run 19th July 2008

I started my run from the Saga hill entrance at approx. 10.20am. My plan was to cover almost every part of Saga hill and Ah Pak San. The first part of the route was to start from Saga Hill entrance-Saga hill peak-Ah pak San Station 6-Ah Pak San entrance(Stall and car park).
Second part was Ah Pak San entrance-Station1-Station2- Station3-Station4-Station5(peak)-Waterfall. Third part was Waterfall-Station5-Station6-Saga Hill peak-Saga Hill entrance.
My summary time taken for the run is as follows:-

Station 6 to Ah Pak San entrance-20.51(53.09)

Gunung Nuang Adventure Run-Climb-12th July 2008

After several times running Ah Pek San and Saga Hills, I’m itching for a more challenging hill or mountain to run and climb. The nearest and highest mountain available in Selangor is Gunung Nuang (1493m/4898ft), located at the end of the Ulu Langat road in Pangsun.

I thought of inviting Eddy to join me for the run but all his recent weekend was occupied by road races. Therefore, I decided to run the mountain alone.

I have prepared the following before the run.
1) Download Gunung Nuang trail map, very helpful for first timer.

2) 500ml 100plus.

3) 2 liters water.

4)2 Almond & Cashew Bar 45g.

5)pacesetters running pouch.

My targeted time was to complete the whole journey in less than 5 hours. A very tough challenge for a veteran to climb alone for the first time. Anyway, with the help of the trail map i am very confident to achieve my target. I tried to carry as little stuff as position so that it wouldn't affect my pace and timing. Initially, i thought of carry my running pouch with a bottle of 500ml of 100plus only, 2 liters water and food bar will leave in the car but was advised by my friend to carry with me in case of emergency. Eventually, i decided to bring 1 bottle of 500ml 100plus, running pouch, 2 small food bar (like the size of power bar) and my important Gunung Nuang trail map. Is 500ml of 100plus enough for the whole journey? Let's see how.

I started my journey at 9.00am sharp. I
was running almost all the way at The Never Ending Road. It was almost impossible to run after this, from the rest house of the open road to Kem Lolo.(2% running and 98% walking). 1% running from Kem Lolo to Kem Pacat. 100% walking from Kem Pacat to Puncak Pengasih. 1% running from Pencak Pengasih to Summit.
Time at the starting point 9.00.04am

Orang Asli stall

My watch shown 35.16 at the end of The Never Ending Road.

This was all i brought with me.

Self taken photo in the summit, couldn't find anybody around to help.
Refilled water from the stream.

Time at the end of the journey 1.39pm

The summary timing of my journey is as follows:-
Location ............................................. Time taken................Total time

At the end of The Never Ending Road ...... 35.16....................... 35.16

Dam Lolo.................................................08.37....................... 43.37

Kem Lolo ................................................04.51....................... 46.28

Kem Pacat..............................................46.28...................... 1.35.19

Puncak Pengasih..................................... 33.23..................... 2.08.43

Summit Gunung Nuang........................... 23.23...................... 2.32.06

Rest.......................................................02.44...................... 2.34.50

Descent -----------------

Puncak Pengasih ..................................21.54 .......................2.56.45

Kem Pacat ..........................................24.28........................ 3.21.14

Dam Lolo..............................................44.17........................ 4.05.32

The end of The Never Ending Road .......06.49........................ 4.12.21

Car Park entrance................................25.48........................ 4.38.10

Total time up - 2 hours 32minutes 06 seconds

Total time down - 2 hours 06 minutes 04 seconds

Total time up and down - 4 hours 38 minutes 10 seconds

Time lost - About 5 minutes finding the way up and 5 minutes entered the wrong road at Kem Lolo on the way down.

Is 1 bottle of 500ml 100plus enough for the whole journey? The answer is yes. First, I drank plenty of (about 3 glasses) immediately after woke up at 7.00am., took Wan Tan Mee and a cup of milk tea for breakfast. I drank a glass of water and a glass of skim milk 10 minutes before the start of the journey. I consumed the whole bottle of 100 plus before crossing the final stream, then refilled the water from the final stream before continued the climb. I finished my stream's water at the summit. Refilled the water again while crossing the first stream down from summit. Finish the whole bottle of water before the run at The Never Ending Road so that i could ran faster without any burden. The 2 food bar were totally unconsumed. With much satisfaction of my fantastic timing, I drove home happily with a sweet memory.
