SHAH ALAM: The mystery of the missing Shah Alam Adidas Marathon runner who did not return home after completing his run on Sunday was answered when the police K-9 unit found his body a day later at a tunnel at the Shah Alam Stadium.
The body of 22-year-old Gary Leon Robert, a Universiti Tenaga Nasional student, was found at 1.05pm yesterday almost 24 hours after his father, Marry Robert lodged a police report at the Section 11 police station here.
Shah Alam deputy police chief Superintendent M. Chandra, when contacted, said the father had lodged a missing person's report at the police station at about 4pm on Sunday.
He said police officers spent the whole morning searching for Gary at the stadium but their search was unfruitful.
"The K-9 unit was then brought in at noon to look for the victim.
At 1.05pm, police found his body in a tunnel which was usually used by the Federal Reserve Unit during football matches.
"When he was found, the deceased was lying on his back and he was wearing a white T-shirt, orange Adidas vest, shorts and sports shoes.
"There were also cuts on his chin and lips, believed to be sustained from a fall."
Chandra said the victim had participated in the Adidas Marathon held from 6am to 10am at the Shah Alam Stadium on Sunday.
He was believed to have completed his run before he passed out.
He said after receiving treatment from paramedics, Gary was seen leaving the paramedic's treatment area.
That was the last time anyone saw him alive.
Gary's body was sent to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for a post mortem.
Pending the outcome of the post mortem, police have classified the case as sudden death.
